Care for Puppies & Kittens

Bringing home a new kitten or puppy is exciting! This adorable new member of the family just makes everyone who meets them smile.

However, as fun as this is, there are important health care matters to take care of during your new cuddly companion's first year of life.

Your veterinarian will establish a customized health care plan to meet your pet's essential requirements during their first year, and give you the guidance and support you need during this exciting time.

Puppies & Kittens, Yucaipa Veterinarians

Your Pet’s First Appointment

Ideally, puppies should attend their first veterinary appointment when they are roughly six weeks old, and kittens around eight weeks.

At this first visit, your four-legged friend will be given a comprehensive physical examination to assess their overall health, look for signs of any congenital defects, and look for external parasites.

More About Physical Exams

We will also apply deworming medication for roundworms and hookworms, and administer their first round of puppy or kitten vaccinations.

More About Vaccines & Prevention

For kittens, we will conduct a blood test to look for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus.

Follow-up Appointments

Puppies and kittens should visit the vet 3 to 4 times between the ages of 6 and 16 weeks. These veterinary appointments give our vets the opportunity to assess your young friend's health and administer their vaccines on schedule.
